The Abu Dhabi Department of Tourism and Culture (DTC) announced the reopening of hotels in the capital on May 24th.
The hotels, which have remained closed since March 23d, had so far been able to rely exclusively on the presence of “long-stay” guests, mainly expatriates for business reasons, who were on site at the time the pandemic was officially declared and the UAE start the containment measures.
As early as the end of March, the Abu Dhabi Department of Tourism had already given hotels special instructions for cleaning and disinfecting rooms and common areas.

Also now, the reopening of Abu Dhabi hotels is strictly conditioned by the application of precise rules to ensure the safety of guests and operators.
Among the measures required: masks and gloves mandatory for all, installation of thermal cameras, connected with the NCEMA systems (the Emirati authority for the management of crises and emergencies), COVID-19 test mandatory for all hotel employees, to be repeated every two weeks, medical staff in place, in case of emergency, isolation rooms for suspected cases, systematic sterilization and sanitation of common areas, encouragement of electronic payment methods.
Hotels must also have a 24-hour gap between guests leaving a room and guests arriving to be accommodated in the same room.
The reopening of restaurants and private beaches inside hotels has also been announced..
On June 6th, the measures announced for the hotels have been integrated with specific measures for the beaches, swimming pools, restaurants and bars inside the hotels.
As for beaches, for hotel guests only, there is a cap to 40% of their capacity.
As for restaurants, also open to external visitors, the capacity is limited to 30%.
The new rules for restaurants inside the hotels include that:
👉 restaurants should not exceed 30% of their total capacity;
👉 up to 2 people allowed per table;
👉 hand sanitizer to be offered;
👉 staff and customers to wear masks and gloves;
👉 tables to be distanced at least 2,5m apart;
👉 frequent sterilization and use of disinfectants to be implemented;
👉 disposable and sigle use materials to be used.
