🗓️ August 27, 2020 – Reopening of nurseries announced
ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge) announces guidelines and measures for nurseries in Abu Dhabi to reopen.
All nurseries must undergo health and safety inspections and receive a no-objection certificate from ADEK. All staff must undergo mandatory COVID-19 online training.
Among the measures prescribed, nurseries are to operate at reduced capacity, with children to be cared for in ‘bubbles’ of no more than 10.
Children and staff must undergo daily temperature and health checks, and nurseries will be subject to periodic inspections to check compliance with safety measures.

🗓️ August 27, 2020 – Option to work remotely for Government sector
Abu Dhabi Government will offer the option to work remotely for employees in its departments and companies who have children enrolled in distance learning for the 1st school semester, to enable parents to support their children’s educational journey during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Employees must provide a letter from the school confirming that their children are enrolled in distance learning. All previous remote working guidelines remain in place.

🗓️ August 25, 2020 – New rules for entering Abu Dhabi Emirate
The Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disasters Committee, in cooperation with Department of Health Dubai, approves two tests to enter Abu Dhabi Emirate, effective from 27 August 2020.
Entry will be allowed within 48 hours of receiving a negative PCR test result, or with a negative DPI laser test result accompanied by a negative PCR test result received within 6 days.
The Committee states that the same type of test cannot be taken twice in a row within 6 days.
Volunteers in the COVID-19 vaccine trials are exempt from these entry measures and are authorized to use emergency vehicle lanes for a smooth journey.
Meanwhile, violating these procedures will result in penalties and fines as outlined by the Attorney General.
🗓️ August 25, 2020 – Formula 1 date announced
The Abu Dhabi Motorsport Management announces that Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix 2020 is to take place on Sunday, 13 December at Yas Marina Circuit, using the innovative ‘safe zone’ model.
Access is to be limited to essential F1 staff, drivers and teams. The event will take place without spectators.
🗓️ August 23, 2020 – SWARD program to develop a drug for COVID-19
Sandooq Al Watan (a private sector initiative to boost the UAE’s social development) and University of Sharjah sign research agreements to develop an antiviral drug for COVID-19, under Sandooq Al Watan’s Applied Research and Development program ‘SWARD’.
🗓️ August 17, 2020 – Reopening of cinemas in the malls announced
Department of Economic Development, in coordination with Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Committee for the COVID-19 Pandemic, issues precautionary measures for resumption of operations for cinemas inside shopping malls across Abu Dhabi.
These measures include: cinema halls should not exceed 30% of their capacity, applying physical distancing between visitors inside and outside cinema halls, wearing masks, and conducting COVID-19 tests for all staff members prior to resuming activity.
🗓️ August 16, 2020 – Smart Emergency Control Center
Abu Dhabi Department of Economy launches the remote Smart Emergency Control Center, dedicated to enhancing the monitoring of customers’ movements in shops across the emirate, as part of precautionary measures against the spread of COVID-19.
The center is equipped with a smart live camera system that is operated 24/7 by a dedicated inspection team in order to monitor adherence to precautions such as social distancing and compliance with specified store capacity.
🗓️ August 16, 2020 – Policies for private schools reopening
ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge) announces policies and guidelines for in-person attendance to the school year for private schools in Abu Dhabi.
All staff, teachers, parents and students must comply with the precautionary and sterilization procedures.
Measures include mandatory COVID-19 testing for all teaching staff, employees & students above age 12; maintain physical distance and no more than 15 students in a classroom.
Mandatory daily temperature checks & wearing of face masks for all teachers and students above ages 6 are also required, as well as all suspension of sports and extracurricular activities.
🗓️ August 16, 2020 – Reopening of private schools
Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Committee for the COVID-19 Pandemic, in coordination with ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge) approves private schools’ plans to reopen with physical attendance for the upcoming academic year.
Full online learning is optional for the first term, subject to prior coordination with the school.
5 models are available for private schools in Abu Dhabi to balance between in-classroom and online learning, whilst adhering to strict preventative measures.

🗓️ August 12, 2020 – New procedures for the return of residents – Phase 2
NCEMA and ICA UAE approve the second phase for the return of residents, effective from August 12th 2020.
An automatic pre-approval now replaces the phases of registration and waiting for approval.
For the Emirate of Dubai only, it is necessary to submit a re-entry request through the portal of the General Directorate of Residency and Foreign Affairs (GDRFA)
A negative result from the COVID-19 test, issued by an accredited laboratory, is still required and all preventive and safety measures are applied at the arrival in the UAE, included a second COVID-19 test.

Al Ain Zoo and the Sheikh Zayed Desert Learning Centrere reopen, after having adopted all the required anti COVID-19 measures. The opening times are from 9:00 to 21:00 on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
